The Stark Neurosciences Research Institute at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis administers the Medical Neuroscience Graduate Program. The nationally and internationally prominent research institute, an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary entity that conducts broad-based research and provides a range of training opportunities in neuroscience, offers a environment of strong faculty-student interactions among the more than 75 faculty members across basic and clinical sciences departments at the IU School of Medicine and IU Indianapolis. Students train in a state-of-the-art research building, which is adjacent to clinical neuroscience departments. This program facilitates a collaborative culture — a vital component of today’s interdisciplinary nature of biomedical science research.
Graduates of the program are well-equipped for successful careers across the academic and non-academic scientific spectrum, including, but not limited to, electrophysiology, molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, stem cell research, neuroimaging, behavioral neuroscience, computational neuroscience, drug development, and public policy. Stark Neurosciences Research Institute houses research groups focused broadly on the biology of the nervous system with a focus on its disorders, disease, injury and repair. These programs have an emphasis on translation of basic science advances into new therapies.
