Natalie Guerrero, MD, PhD

Bio

The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Dr. Natalie Guerrero was born and raised in the city of Chicago. She earned a B.A. in Neuroscience, with a minor in Music, from Pomona College in Southern California. Through the Medical Scientist Training Program, she completed medical school and earned a Ph.D. in Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During graduate and medical school training, she led and contributed to projects related to racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare trust, cancer screening services, and food insecurity. She became increasingly interested in mental health disparities, and in her dissertation, Dr. Guerrero evaluated the relationship between maternal depression and child problem behavior. She completed pediatric residency training in the Pediatrician Scientist Program at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. As a resident, she published a case report on the intersections of limited English proficiency, delayed diagnoses, and chronic disease in the Journal of Adolescent Health. She was awarded a research grant to evaluate the impact of experienced racial discrimination in adolescence on mental health outcomes and plans to continue to conduct research in this area as a fellow in the Pediatric Scientist Development Program. Dr. Guerrero looks forward to continuing training as a pediatrician scientist in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Indiana University and developing collaborations with local community members, scholars, and faculty.
