Bio

Dr. Yang is an Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. His research focuses on the pathogenesis of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), with particular emphasis on non-coding RNAs, lipid metabolism, and RNA alternative splicing.

Dr. Yang joined IU School of Medicine in 2018 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2025. He has received multiple awards and research grants, including a Mentored Research Scientist Development Award from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and early career development awards from the Central Society for Clinical and Translational Research (CSCTR), as well as several internal funding awards and a recent R01 to uncover how RNA splicing contributes to ALD progression. His long-term goal is to identify novel diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets to deepen our understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving ALD and other chronic liver diseases.
